Day to Day Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi to Aberdares National Park: Into the Kenya's Highland
Your Kenya safari tour begins with a morning pickup from your Nairobi hotel. Journey 150km north through the lush Central Highlands to Aberdares National Park, a mystical mountain sanctuary unlike any other Kenyan park.
Arrive at The Ark Lodge for lunch, this unique treehouse-style lodge overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick where wildlife congregates after dark. After settling in, embark on your first game drive through misty bamboo forests and moorlands, tracking elusive black rhinos, leopards, forest elephants, and troops of black-and-white Colobus monkeys swinging through the canopy.
The Aberdares’ dramatic landscape, cascading waterfalls, deep ravines, and peaks reaching 4,000 meters, offer a hauntingly beautiful introduction to Kenya’s wild diversity. As night falls, return to The Ark for dinner and nocturnal wildlife viewing from the lodge’s observation decks.
Accommodation: The Ark Lodge
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Day 2: Aberdares to Samburu National Reserve: Journey to the Northern Frontier
After breakfast, depart the cool highlands and descend into Kenya’s sun-baked northern frontier. Cross the Equator and traverse vast sisal plantations and arid scrublands as the landscape transforms dramatically.
Arrive at Samburu National Reserve in time for lunch at your camp. This raw, semi-desert wilderness along the Uaso Nyiro River is one of Kenya’s most enchanting reserves, a land of dramatic contrasts where doum palms line riverbanks against a backdrop of volcanic mountains.
Your afternoon game drive introduces you to the “Samburu Special Five”—rare species adapted to this harsh environment: the long-necked gerenuk standing on hind legs to browse acacia, striking reticulated giraffes with geometric patterns, endangered Grevy’s zebras with pin-striped coats, elegant Beisa oryx with rapier horns, and blue-legged Somali ostriches.
Accommodation: Ashnil Samburu Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 3: Track Leopards, Discover Huge Herds of Elephants on a safari in Samburu
Today is dedicated to exploring Samburu’s extraordinary ecosystem on morning and afternoon game drives, with the dramatic Mathews Range creating a stunning mountain backdrop.
The life-giving Uaso Nyiro River (“Brown Water” in Maasai) flows year-round, attracting massive elephant herds, crocodiles basking on sandy banks, and countless bird species. Track leopards along the riverine forests, Samburu boasts one of Africa’s highest leopard densities. Watch for lion prides resting under shade, and if fortune smiles, glimpse the rare African wild dog.
Between drives, relax at camp during the heat of the day, perhaps enjoying a refreshing swim or cultural visit to a nearby Samburu village to learn about these proud pastoralist warriors, cousins to the Maasai.
Over 450 bird species inhabit Samburu, including the vulturine guineafowl, martial eagle, and colourful bee-eaters: a paradise for birding enthusiasts.
Accommodation: Ashnil Samburu Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4: Samburu to Lake Nakuru: A Rhino Haven
Depart Samburu after breakfast for a scenic 5-6 hour journey south to Lake Nakuru National Park, descending into the legendary Great Rift Valley—one of Earth’s most dramatic geological features, visible from space.
Arrive for lunch, then embark on an afternoon game drive in this compact but incredibly wildlife-rich park. Lake Nakuru is world-famous for its flamingo spectacle—though numbers fluctuate, when present, millions of lesser and greater flamingos create a shimmering pink ribbon along the alkaline lake shores.
This is one of Kenya’s premier rhino sanctuaries, protecting both critically endangered black rhinos and white rhinos within an electric fence. You’ll also encounter the rare Rothschild giraffe—taller and paler than Masai giraffes—plus buffalo, waterbuck, and if lucky, tree-climbing lions in the fever tree forests.
The park’s 400+ bird species include pelicans, cormorants, African fish eagles, and countless waterbirds creating a photographer’s paradise.
Accommodation: Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 5: Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara National Reserve: Gateway to the Greatest Wildlife Show
After an early breakfast, journey west toward Kenya’s crown jewel, the legendary Masai Mara. The 5-hour drive passes through the dramatic Rift Valley escarpment and Maasai pastoralist lands, with herds of cattle and goats tended by red-robed warriors.
Stop in Narok town, the bustling Maasai administrative center, before the final leg across open grasslands where wildlife viewing often begins before you even enter the reserve.
Arrive at your camp for lunch, then head out for your first Mara game drive. The vast savannah teems with life—massive elephant herds, towering giraffes browsing acacia tops, thousands of zebras and wildebeest, and the predators that follow: lion prides, solitary cheetahs scanning from termite mounds, and elusive leopards.
Visit the Mara River, famous for the Great Migration’s dramatic crossings (July-October), where crocodiles lurk in muddy waters year-round alongside bathing hippos.
Accommodation: PrideInn Mara Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 6: Full-day Big Five and Wildebeest Safari in Masai Mara
Today offers unlimited exploration of the Masai Mara, Africa’s most famous wildlife reserve and the stage for nature’s greatest spectacle.
Depart at dawn when predators are most active. The soft morning light illuminates golden grasslands as lions return from night hunts, cheetahs survey the plains, and leopards descend from trees where they’ve cached kills. The Mara’s extensive road network allows close-range encounters perfect for photography.
Mid-morning, enjoy a picnic breakfast in the bush before continuing game viewing. The Mara hosts over 95 mammal species, including all the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and the endangered black rhino (though rare).
Break for lunch at the hippo pool, where hundreds of hippos wallow and yawn, revealing massive tusks, while Nile crocodiles sun on the banks. The pools support over 570 recorded bird species.
Afternoon drives often reveal different wildlife behaviour, elephants gathering at waterholes, hyena clans emerging from dens, and, if extraordinarily fortunate, predator kills or the rare black rhino.
Return at sunset for sundowners and dinner under African stars.
Optional (additional cost): Hot air balloon safari at dawn—an unforgettable perspective, floating over wildlife-filled plains.
Accommodation: PrideInn Mara Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 7: Farewell to the Wild, End of this Kenya Safari Tour
Rise before dawn for a final early morning game drive, your last chance to spot that elusive leopard or witness a lion kill. Return to camp mid-morning for a hearty breakfast.
After checking out, begin the scenic 5-6 hour drive back to Nairobi, carrying memories of Kenya’s extraordinary wilderness. Pass through the Great Rift Valley with photo stops at viewpoints overlooking the vast valley floor.
