Day to Day Itinerary
Day 1: A Journey to the Mara
After pick up at 6:00 am (EAT), you will kick off your safari to Masai Mara via Mai Mahiu-Naivasha Road with a short stop over at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint. This will grant you an opportunity to see and explore the Great Rift Valley and take great photos of the beautiful scenery. Later, proceed via Mau-Narok Road with the best landscape sceneries of large wheat farming activities that are eye-catching to nature lovers. You will be expected to check in at Maasai Mara Sekenani gate, with an en-route game drive to Mara Serena Lodge. It is here that you will have lunch before checking into your rooms for a short afternoon rest. Later, have a visit to the Maasai village, to interact and learn about their culture and beliefs. Thereafter, you will check back into the lodge for dinner and lay over, awaiting the following day’s planned activities.
Day 2: Masai Mara National Reserve
On the second day of your safari, you’ll get the chance to fully explore the wild on a full day in the wild! Get to spend the day in the world’s most famous reserve, Maasai Mara, also sometimes spelt Masai Mara and locally known simply as The Mara. It is a large game reserve in Narok, Kenya, contiguous with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. It is named in honour of the Maasai people, the ancestral inhabitants of the area, who migrated to the area from the Nile Basin. Their description of the area when looked at from afar: “Mara” means “spotted” in the local Maasai language, due to the many short bushy trees which dot the landscape. It is one of the most famous and important wildlife conservation and wilderness areas in Africa, world-renowned for its exceptional populations of lion, leopard, cheetah and African bush elephant. It also hosts the Great Migration, which secured it as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa, and as one of the Ten Wonders of the World.
Day 3: Masai Mara-Lake Naivasha
Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast at the lodge and thereafter, check out and head to Naivasha. You will arrive in time for lunch at the resort. After lunch, you’ll have the option of enjoying a boat ride on the beautiful Lake Naivasha which is a freshwater lake and the second largest freshwater lake in Kenya. It is a haven for more than 200 species of birds including the fish eagles, ospreys, lily-trotters, black crakes and a variety of herons. The waters of the lake draw in a great range of game to its shores from giraffes wandering among the acacia to buffalo wallowing in the swamps, to Colobus monkeys calling from the treetops while the Lake’s largest hippopotamus population sleeps the day out in the shallows of the lake. Alternatively, visit Crescent Island: which has a flat terrain allowing you to enjoy a relaxed walk as you watch the giraffes, waterbucks, wildebeests, zebras and impalas peacefully graze.
Day 4: Lake Naivasha-Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Check out from the hotel after a hearty sumptuous breakfast and journey to Ol Pejeta Conservancy situated on the equator West of Nanyuki; between the foothills of the Aberdares and Mount Kenya with short stopovers at the curio shops and the Equator crossing point. This will grant one an opportunity to use the restrooms, and buy some Kenya crafts if interested as gifts back home. You’ll also get to learn some history on what happens to planet Earth at the Equator point. Arrive in time for lunch at Sweetwaters Serena Camp located inside the conservancy. Later on, enjoy an introductory afternoon game drive. This private conservancy offers an experience of a lifetime with great views of the peaks of Mount Kenya and boasts of the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, a Chimpanzee Sanctuary that is a charming haven established by the Jane Goodall Institute to provide shelter to orphaned chimps. Dinner and your overnight stay are at your camp.
Day 5: Ol Pejeta Conservancy-Nairobi
Before you bid farewell to nature and the wild, you will have breakfast at the hotel and then check out. Drive back to Nairobi through the great landscapes of Kenya’s countryside to your drop-off point.
