You begin with a night in Arusha at the tranquil Outpost Lodge, before Lake Manyara’s flamingo-lined soda lake and diverse woodland introduce the trip’s rhythm. The Ngorongoro highlands follow, a first glimpse of the crater from the rim before the road descends into the Serengeti itself, where three full days allow the great wildebeest and zebra migration, and the predators that trail it, to properly unfold around you, evenings spent by the fire under a genuinely endless African sky. The journey closes with a full descent into the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the densest wildlife concentrations on the planet, and a final day in Tarangire, elephant country, before the return to Arusha.

The extended three-day Serengeti stay makes this especially rewarding for photographers and anyone hoping to properly witness the migration, and it's a strong fit for adventurous travellers who want the complete northern circuit experience without the accommodation cost of a lodge-based safari.
Because this itinerary dedicates three full days to the Serengeti, the timing of the migration itself matters more here than on shorter circuits. November and December see herds moving south into the plains, and June through October brings the classic dry season with generally easier access and clearer game viewing.
On arrival, you’ll be collected from the airport by your guide and transferred to your accommodation in Arusha, where you’ll overnight, relax, and prepare in anticipation of the adventures ahead. Outpost Lodge is a genuine oasis of calm before the wild begins.
After breakfast, your safari guide meets you at your accommodation and you set out for Lake Manyara National Park, a relatively small but genuinely diverse park some 120 kilometres west of Arusha, named for the shallow soda lake that covers much of its surface, flooding and drying with the seasons and drawing thousands of flamingo alongside some 500 other recorded bird species. Exploring the park, you’ll encounter monkey, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and elephant, and with some luck, lion lounging in the trees above. The park’s landscapes shift constantly, open grassy plains giving way to primate-filled woodland and baobab-dotted cliffs. After an extensive game drive, you’ll head to your carefully selected campsite for dinner, rest and relaxation.
After breakfast, you set out for the fertile highlands where the Iraqw people grow wheat, coffee and corn, passing through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area for the chance to glimpse the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater before continuing on to the Serengeti National Park, reached by midday. Tanzania’s largest park holds a genuine diversity of landscapes, grassy plains, swamp, lake, savannah and mountain, home to the great wildebeest and zebra migration on its circuitous journey, alongside a wide range of other wildlife. Depending on the season, you may find yourself among thousands of animals in search of food and water. After an extensive game drive, you’ll head to your campsite to unwind, share dinner, and relax by the fire on the endless plain beneath a genuinely endless African sky.
The entire day is set aside for further game driving. The Serengeti supports an abundance of wildlife, impala, buffalo, crocodile and hippo among them, though it’s best known for its great migrating herds of zebra and wildebeest, their trek determined by rainfall and varying from year to year, moving from the woodland and hills of the north toward the southern grassy plains around November and December, and returning north during the longer rains from April to June. Beyond the migration, there’s a genuine chance of spotting predators, leopard, cheetah and lion, always lurking close by. With a full day on the plains behind you, you’ll return to camp for a well-earned rest.
Your final full day in the Serengeti, truly one of the most spectacular places on earth, continues the wide-ranging exploration of its animals and birds. By now, you’ll have a genuine feel for the park, so make sure to ask your guide to take you to whichever locations you’d most like to revisit. Your last night is spent sleeping out on the plain itself, eyes open for the passing wildlife, which, rest assured, has little interest in you.
After an early breakfast, you head out for another game drive in the Serengeti, with a genuine chance of spotting the Big Five, lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard, before setting off for the Ngorongoro Crater. The animals here roam freely through unfenced reserves, offering an uninterrupted game viewing experience along the way. Arriving at the crater’s edge, you get your first glimpse of what awaits tomorrow, glistening streams, open grassland and a vast array of animals. You’ll spend the night at Simba Campsite, directly on the crater’s edge, the orange glow of sunset settling around you as you drift off to sleep.
Early risers are rewarded with breathtaking views of the sun rising over the crater’s edge. After a hearty breakfast, you’ll drive down the adventurous track into the crater itself, a UNESCO World Heritage Site formed millions of years ago in a volcanic eruption, some 610 metres deep and covering roughly 260 square kilometres. Home to a dense population of some 25,000 ungulates, the crater offers arguably the best game viewing of any park in Tanzania, wildebeest, zebra, gazelle and elephant appearing within minutes, alongside some of the more than 500 recorded bird species. With a little luck, the endangered black rhino may reveal itself through the grass. After lunch, you’ll ascend the crater’s steep walls and continue on to your lodgings in Karatu, dinner awaiting at the Lilac Campsite, or alternatively the Panorama Campsite, in pretty, relaxing surroundings.
After breakfast, you’ll drive to the final destination on this epic safari, Tarangire National Park, well known for its large elephant herds, seasonal swamps, savannah and the Tarangire River winding its way through the park, drawing wildlife to its waters. From the open roof of your safari vehicle, you’ll take in the landscape as you search for zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant and giraffe, with a genuine chance of spotting a lion stalking its prey, or leopard watching from the branches above. After an extensive game drive, and with the adventure drawing to a close, you’ll head back to Arusha, full of images of the African wild
